BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The timing of official visits to Baghdad reflects the international struggle over its interests in Iraq, political analyst and political science professor Khalid Abdul-Ilah said on Tuesday.

"The timing of the official visits to Baghdad reflects the international conflict over its interests in Iraq," Abdul-Ilah told Al-Anwariya. "The many visits to Baghdad are linked to the repercussions of the US withdrawal from Syria."

He added that "international visits by the world leaders to Baghdad spend time if there are no realistic results, pointing out that the Iraqi leaders do not open the files closed with countries, most notably the Saudi debt to Iraq

He pointed out that "policy axes do not serve Iraq and that the policy of self-distancing is the most successful in Iraq."
