[size=30]Minister of Culture receives Director of UNESCO in Iraq[/size]
The Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities Dr. Abdul Amir Al-Hamdani received on Monday at his office the Director of the UNESCO Office in Iraq, Louise Huckhausen, and discussed ways of cooperation between Iraq and the OIC. Ms. Luiz stressed FAO's support for Iraq in its effort to rebuild monuments and heritage buildings that had been destroyed by gangs, as well as to rebuild Alnuri mosque and conduct the required surveys.
Louise confirmed the financial support of $ 20 million part of the old city and stressed the importance of the organization in training Iraqi cadres working in the field of antiquities through workshops to be held in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture.
She also stressed the organization's efforts to help Iraq in a plan that managed the cities listed on the World Heritage List of archaeological sites and marshes.
For his part, the minister praised the efforts, stressing the need for high coordination between the organization and the ministry as well as the concerned parties in the endowments and local government, pointing out that all work must be under the full supervision of the Antiquities Authority and in accordance with the laws.
The Minister referred to the campaign launched by the Ministry to protect the urban heritage in Baghdad and its importance in preserving the heritage of Baghdadi. For her part, Louise praised the plan, stressing the organization's support for this trend. At the end of the meeting, Mrs. Louise thanked the Minister of Culture for this fruitful meeting.
