Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif arrived in Baghdad on Sunday for an official visit at the head of a high-level political and economic delegation. 
This is Zarif's first visit to Baghdad after the formation of the new Iraqi government headed by "Adel Abdul Mahdi." 
Zarif is scheduled to meet with President Barham Salih, Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi and Speaker of the House of Representatives Mohamed Halboussi. 
According to the statement of the Iranian embassy in Baghdad, the Iranian Foreign Minister will visit Erbil on Tuesday and meet with officials in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, and conclude his visit to Iraq on Thursday.

[rtl]Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif discussed with his Iraqi counterpart Mohammad Ali al-Hakim the economic cooperation between the two countries and the security challenges facing the region.[/rtl]

On a four-day visit, the Iranian minister arrived at Baghdad, where he will meet with a number of Iraqi officials and visit the religious authorities in Najaf. 
After a joint meeting, al-Hakim said in a press conference with Zarif: "We have had a long and fruitful meeting with the Iranian foreign minister and his accompanying delegation, and it was an opportunity for the two countries to discuss regional issues of mutual interest to both countries." 
"We discussed the bilateral political and economic relations between the two countries and the establishment of serious mechanisms for entry visas between the two countries. We also discussed the common borders and the unilateral economic measures of the United States and work with Iran in them," he said. "We discussed the consular aspects and discussed navigation in the Shatt al- "He said.

" 
In a statement A press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after a meeting with Hakim with Zarif, stressed that "the two sides discussed the activation of the agreements concluded between the two countries, and the current situation in the region," indicating that Hakim stressed "Iraq's openness to all countries of the world, especially neighboring countries on the basis of common interests, Common. " 
He added that" the Iraqi - Iranian relations are witnessing steady progress in light of mutual visits of officials of the two countries , "and expressed" Iraq 's intention to improve these relations and strengthen ties between the two countries and at all levels serve the two peoples neighbors. "
For his part, Zarif stressed his country's stand "with Iraq in its war against terrorism, and continue to provide support and support in the reconstruction," praising "the victories achieved by the Iraqi security forces of all kinds," according to the statement. 
"The two sides focused on economic cooperation between the two countries, especially with the US sanctions on Iran, During the next two days. "
He pointed out that "the possibility of the visit lead to formal agreements to strengthen military cooperation in the fight against terrorism." 
This is the first visit of its kind to Sharif to Baghdad, with the formation of the new government headed by Adel Abdul Mahdi.

[rtl]BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohammed al-Hakim and his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif discussed Sunday the "unilateral" US sanctions imposed on Tehran.[/rtl]

[rtl]At a joint press conference in Baghdad, al-Hakim said that he discussed with his Iranian counterpart "important matters on the regional scene and what is in the interest of the two countries."[/rtl]

[rtl]"We discussed the unilateral economic measures from the United States of America and work with neighboring Iran on them."[/rtl]

[rtl]On December 21, the US State Department announced a 90-day exemption to allow Iraq to continue payments for electricity and gas imports from Iran.[/rtl]

[rtl]Trade between the two countries is about 12 billion dollars.[/rtl]

[rtl]Officials say the two sides will work to increase the volume of exchange to 20 billion, ignoring US sanctions.[/rtl]

[rtl]During the conference, al-Hakim said that he discussed with Zarif "finding new mechanisms for citizens' visas to the lands of the two countries, discussing the outstanding problems of navigation in the Shatt al-Arab (south), land and water border issues and forming a joint committee."[/rtl]

[rtl]At the regional level, the Iraqi minister said that the meeting dealt with "supporting the territorial integrity of Syria and his country's efforts to restore Syria to the Arab League."[/rtl]

[rtl]"We discussed the peaceful solution in Yemen and two of the outcomes of the Stockholm conference and we with the assistance to Yemen and the return of the people to the administration of his country."[/rtl]

[rtl]The Yemeni parties, under the auspices of the United Nations last month, held a round of consultations in Sweden, which ended with the signing of the Stockholm Agreement.[/rtl]

[rtl]Hakim pointed out that he discussed with Zarif "the support of the two countries for the Palestinian people and their right to its territory and its capital Jerusalem and to end the Zionist occupation of the Palestinian territories."[/rtl]

[rtl]For his part, Zarif said that "Iran stands with Iraq in its war against terrorism, and continue to provide support and support in the reconstruction."[/rtl]

[rtl]Zarif praised "the victories achieved by the Iraqi security forces of all kinds."[/rtl]
