Bilateral talks between oil minister Thamir al-Ghadhban and his Iranian counterpart, Beijing Zangana, which included the latest developments on oil and energy relations, began Thursday in Baghdad .
According to the official IRNA news agency, the Iraqi oil minister pointed to "the need to follow up the implementation of previous agreements between Tehran and Baghdad in order to develop relations and bilateral cooperation," adding that "Baghdad emphasizes this issue ."
"As part of the policies of the new government, Iraq seeks to expand foreign cooperation in the fields of oil, gas and electric power, " Ghadhban said .
The Iranian oil minister expressed his hope that "these talks will contribute to further progress on the level of comprehensive cooperation between the two countries."

The five days, the officials of Iraq and Iran, the mechanism of paying Iranian dues to Iraq due to the import of electric power and gas from Tehran.

The Finance Ministry said in a statement that the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Iraqi Finance Minister Fuad Hussein, met with Iranian Oil Minister Beijing Zangana, who is currently visiting Iraq.

He explained that officials from both sides discussed "the best ways and solutions to pay the Iranian dues on Iraq, the purchase of electric power and gas, and agree on the formation of a technical committee competent by the parties in this area."

Iraq imports more than 1,000 megawatts from Iran to meet the shortage of electricity production, and imports gas to power plants.

And exceeds the Iranian dues in Iraq due to the import of electricity and gas from Tehran, about one billion dollars.

The Iranian minister of oil, Bijen Zangane, said that the US sanctions imposed on his country "illegal" and that Tehran will not comply with these sanctions.

Zanganeh told a joint news conference in Baghdad with Iraqi Oil Minister Thamir al-Ghadhban on Thursday that Iran would not discuss the volume of its oil exports or destination, while under US sanctions.

Ghadban said that Iraq has not yet reached an agreement with Iran to develop joint oil fields between the two countries. He added that the decline in global oil prices has stopped and that it is expected to improve gradually.

Zangane had earlier arrived in Baghdad on a visit aimed at developing economic ties between the two countries, especially in the field of oil and energy.
