North Korea leader visits China ahead of possible summit with Trump

08 Jan 2019 01:03 PM

The leader of North Korea went to Beijing to meet with his Chinese counterpart ahead of a possible summit with US President Donald Trump.
Kim Jong-un's visit began on Thursday and ends on Thursday, Kim was invited by his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, accompanied by his wife and senior state officials, the state-run Korean Central News Agency reported Tuesday.
It is the fourth visit by the North Korean leader to Beijing since March.
Talks on North Korea's nuclear arsenal are expected to take place months later without high-level diplomatic exchanges between the two countries.
For his part, US President Donald Trump is seeking to hold his second summit with his Korean counterpart after their first meeting in June, which contributed to a little progress on the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
State Department officials recently met with their North Korean counterparts in Hanoi to discuss a second summit between President Donald Trump and leader Kim Jong-ung, according to press reports .
