BAGHDAD: Iraq's position on the Palestinian issue is firm

04.01.2019

Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohammad Ali al-Hakim affirmed that Iraq's stance is consistent with the Palestinian issue and is based on the 2002 Arab peace initiative, which was reaffirmed at the Arab Summit in Baghdad 2012.

Al-Hakim said in a press statement posted on the ministry's website: "There have been recent statements and news circulated by the media and social networking platforms about a statement attributed to the Foreign Minister on the position of Iraq on the Palestinian issue and the two-state solution, and in this regard we would like to show that what is transmitted is a negation of reality and shame on health The truth. "

He added that "the position of Iraq, reflected in the continued support for the return of the Palestinian territories usurped by the Zionist entity as well as support the efforts of the Palestinian Authority in international conferences and forums in Geneva and New York and directly from the Minister."

The journalist pointed to the ministry statement , that " the work of the Minister of the Human Rights Council, and through the seventh item of the agenda, and which examines the Palestinian issue and condemned the Israeli violations against the Palestinian people and to demand accountability for the perpetrators of these crimes against unarmed civilians."

The statement stressed that during the presidency of the Arab Group at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, he worked on a draft resolution passed by a majority vote, raising the Palestinian flag over the United Nations building and strengthening the status of Palestine in the world.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas gave the minister the "Medal of Jerusalem," the highest award given by the Palestinian Authority, accompanied by a letter of thanks to the efforts of the former Iraqi delegate "current minister" and in recognition of Iraq's support for the Palestinian cause.

The statement pointed out that Iraq defended in the UN Security Council the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people under the situation in the Middle East and delivered a large number of official speeches and statements affirming the rights of the Palestinian people, foremost of which is "the right to live in an independent and viable state" .

Iraq also supported Palestine for the membership of the Security Council, the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council and the Chairmanship of the Group of 77 and China.
