The Syrian presidency reveals the details of Abdul Mahdi's message to Assad

BAGHDAD / Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Saturday received a message from Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi, conveyed by Faleh al-Fayadh, Iraqi national security adviser.

According to the Syrian News Agency (SANA), the Syrian presidency said in a statement that "the message focused on the development of relations between the two countries and the importance of continuing coordination between them at all levels, especially with regard to combating terrorism and cooperation in this regard, especially on the border between the two countries. 

During the meeting, President al-Assad stressed that good relations with brotherly Iraq and cooperation in the fight against terrorism have been a factor of strength for both countries in their war on terrorism, stressing the importance of continuing this cooperation and coordination until the elimination of the remaining terrorist hotspots in some areas of Syria and Iraq.

"The positive events taking place in the region, particularly in terms of restoring security and stability in most Syrian and Iraqi cities, confirm that the will of the peoples of the region to maintain the sovereignty of their countries was stronger than the external ones," he said. 

For his part, al-Fayyad said that "the success of the Iraqi people in the face of terrorism and the victories achieved by Syria and enable them to restore security and defeat terrorism on most of its territory, the latest entry of the Syrian army to Mnbjp good news for the entire region." 

The statement said that the meeting "touched on the bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries, stressing the need to develop them in various fields to serve the interests of the Syrian and Iraqi peoples."
