Baghdad, Iraq, 24 December 2018 - The Special Representative for Iraq of the United Nations Secretary-General, Ms. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, extends her greetings and conveys her very best wishes to the Iraqi people, in particular the Christian community, on the occasion of Christmas and the New Year celebrations.
“On this occasion we cannot but remember those who have lost their lives in the fight against terrorism, those who remain captive by the terrorists, and those displaced who remain away from their homes,” Ms. Hennis-Plasschaert said. “Iraq is seeing a new beginning, after the military defeat of the Da’esh terrorists. The road to a well-deserved, long-term stability will not be easy, but I look forward to a 2019 full of hope and optimism. I wish you a Merry and peaceful Christmas and a Happy New Year.”
