The first deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Hassan Karim al-Kaabi, signed with Gerardo, the director of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Iraq, a memorandum of understanding concerning the establishment of the Parliamentary Development Institute.
The Institute aims to develop the legislative and supervisory work of the legislative institution and its parliamentary committees, and develop the capacities and capabilities of members of the House of Representatives in addition to the employees.
Al-Kaabi stressed that the establishment of the Parliamentary Development Institute is a previous idea. "We have worked on its maturity within record times, noting that this institute works in most developed democratic countries and is a mechanism for developing the internal work of the parliament through training and providing members with skills that improve their legislative and supervisory performance. Within realistic and sophisticated approaches. "
"The establishment of the Institute is considered the first step towards further understanding, which may include working towards achieving the goals of sustainable development, empowering women and supporting young people," he said.
For his part, Gerardo considered the establishment of the Parliamentary Development Institute as an important and strategic step to build and develop the capacities of the members of the House of Representatives, "legislative and supervisory" and contribute to support their performance within their parliamentary committees and to improve their work in general. He appreciated the role of First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives in maintaining coordination with UNDP, Iraq.
