Qatar's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani said on Saturday that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and its secretary-general are now powerless, noting that the council was shaken by the Gulf crisis.

"This regional alliance (the Gulf Cooperation Council) has been shaken by the siege," Al Thani told a panel discussion at the 18th Doha Forum (SNG). "This regional alliance needs to be restructured."

"We need a strong governance system. There must be full participation of all countries in reformulating this structure and it must be binding on all countries," he said, noting that "the Secretariat Cooperation Council of the Secretariat is powerless."

"We must ensure that all the principles and rules we abide by are binding on all in the Gulf region and there must be a clear mechanism for resolving disputes whose results are binding on all countries," he said, stressing that "everyone now understands that the Gulf crisis is unfounded and based on To lies and fabrication of news.
