Iraq and the European Union on Sunday signed a new financial agreement to support the post-war effort and help to promote development, transparency and accountability in the region and the decontamination of them and the amount of 72 million euros.
The agreement was signed by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning Fouad Hussein, and by the European Union Director of Development and Cooperation for Asia and the Middle East, Pierre Emile, in the presence of a delegation from the European Union, as well as Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning and Inspector General.
"Today we signed a strategic partnership agreement with the European Union of three agreements, which includes a package of measures to support the provision of basic services, reactivate economic activity and entrepreneurship, and help facilitate land clearance and support reforms in the energy sector," the Minister of Planning told a news conference following the signing of the agreement.
Hussein added that "the agreements concerned the issues of decentralization and support of the oil sector as well as support for the return of displaced persons to their areas of residence, especially after the removal of mines from their areas and the reconstruction of liberated cities," stressing "continue to activate the partnership and expansion with the European Union and work together to help the Iraqi people and support the economy" .
He pointed out that "the delegation of the European Union will visit a number of areas within the tour to Iraq."
For his part, the representative of the European Union said in a speech at the press conference, "We are here to implement what we agreed at the Kuwait Conference and translate it into action through the signing of three agreements. The first group of agreements that support Iraq and the amount of 72 million euros to support the implementation of the reconstruction of Iraq" .
"The signing of these agreements shows the EU's concrete support for the development plans in Iraq and help families and communities rebuild their lives and their economy," he said.
