The Kuwaiti government has decided to lift the ban on the importation of all kinds of foodstuffs from Iraq.

The Supreme Committee for Food Safety of Kuwait's General Authority for Food and Nutrition recommended in a statement Thursday lifting the ban on the import of all kinds of foodstuffs from Iraq.

The committee's secretary Adel Suwait said the decision was a result of the absence of the reasons for the ban, according to the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Commerce issued a decision to lift the ban.

On 17 October, the Committee recommended that a temporary ban on all foodstuffs coming from Iraq be imposed.

"The Ministry of Trade and Industry has decided to impose a temporary precautionary ban on the importation of all foodstuffs from Iraq because of the suspected outbreak of cholera," said Tariq al-Sabti, director of public relations and information at the agency.

The Kuwait Food Authority was established in accordance with Law No. 112 of 2013, and is responsible for determining programs, policies and regulations to promote community nutrition and reduce the spread of non-communicable diseases.
