The Minister of Reconstruction and Housing in the federal government, Bankan Rikani, who accompanied the delegation of the Kurdistan region to Baghdad headed by Massoud Barzani, a request by the Iraqi political forces to launch the Kurdish leader for an initiative to resolve the Iraqi crisis.

"The Iraqi political forces called on President Barzani to initiate the opening of an office in Baghdad, not to solve the problems between Erbil and Baghdad only, but to resolve the Iraqi crisis as a whole, whether political or economic problems or other."

He added, "Barzani has not yet responded to this initiative, and demanded to give him a chance to think about it."

Massoud Barzani on Thursday held a series of meetings with political leaders and government officials in Baghdad, in a move he said was to "correct the course" between the two sides.

Barzani's visit to Baghdad is the first since 2017, after strained relations between the two sides in an unprecedented manner, following the independence referendum.

The relations between the two sides have improved relatively, in the past few months, but are waiting for intensive talks on outstanding issues, primarily the disputed areas between the two sides, and the share of the province of the state budget, and the management of oil wealth and financing and arming the forces of the region, "Peshmerga."

In clear signs of improved relations, the Iraqi government decided this week to unify customs tariffs between the two sides and resume oil pumping from Kirkuk to the Turkish port of Ceyhan via a pipeline owned by the provincial government.
