Finance Minister Fuad Hussain said during a meeting with Australian Deputy Foreign Minister Scott Kilhir on Wednesday that Iraq needs to support his country in developing the banking and financial system in the country.

"Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of Finance Fuad Hussein received Scott Keller, Australian Deputy Ambassador in Baghdad," his office said in a statement received by Al-Ghad Press.

He added that "Kilhir conveyed his congratulations and the Australian government on the occasion of the formation of the new government and its new position, where they discussed and reviewed the distinguished bilateral relations between Iraq and Australia and the latest developments on the domestic, regional and international levels."

He pointed out that "the two sides discussed the efforts of the Governmental Committee on the completion of the draft law on the state budget and coordination with the Iraqi Council of Representatives,"

Hussein said that "it is hoped to complete the review of the law and return to parliament within the next two weeks," noting that "the budget law in its current form is not in line With the curriculum adopted by the government. "

"One of the reasons for reviewing the law is to develop the necessary allocations to develop Basra and provide services to its people," he said.

In discussing the possibility of supporting the Iraqi government with Australian expertise, he explained that "after the completion of the budget and the development of a new economic strategy in line with the reality of Iraq, we need the expertise of our friends in the areas of economic development and banking system and financial infrastructure and taxes and customs and others."

He pointed out that "the two sides agreed on the possibility of studying the formation of a joint committee of Iraqi and Australian experts to exchange ideas, views and experiences and to mix knowledge and technology with Iraqi heritage and culture."
