Iraq is in talks with international companies to modernize its energy for oil

Tuesday 6 November 2018 09:12 PM

Iraq is in talks with international companies to help it modernize its oil production and export capacity and an agreement will be reached soon, Iraqi Oil Minister Thamer Ghadhban said on Tuesday.
"This is a priority," Ghadban was quoted by Reuters as saying. We have a dialogue with international companies, and it took a while, but we are about to agree. We will resolve this issue soon. "
He said that Iraq targets a production capacity of five million barrels per day in 2019, and is expected to average exports to about 3.8 million barrels per day.
Iraq is also planning to boost its export capacity after upgrading its energy infrastructure to 8.5 million bpd in the coming years, Ghadhban said.
The updated export capacity will include 6.5 million barrels per day of oil fields in the south of the country, with the availability of one million barrels per day after the completion of the construction of a new pipeline between Kirkuk and Jihan.
Al-Ghadhban pointed out that the Iraqi Oil Ministry has received offers from three foreign contractors to build a giant water treatment plant, a necessary project for the OPEC member to boost its oil production capacity.
He said he expected to start work in early 2019, and cost the project billions of dollars.
He added that additional export capacity of one million barrels per day would be added from a pipeline that would eventually connect the southern city of Basra with Jordan's Red Sea port of Aqaba, adding that the construction of new pipelines aims to "diversify export outlets".
He said a final deal was expected with BP to boost production from oilfields around the northern city of Kirkuk.

"I met with their representative (BP) yesterday, and I hope to reach an agreement very soon ... It is a priority," he said.
