Ministry of Electricity discusses steps to implement cooperation agreement with GE

During a meeting with a delegation from General Electric Company, the Minister of Electricity, Luai Al-Khatib, discussed the following steps on Sunday to implement the terms of the cooperation agreement signed with the company.
Al-Khatib said in a statement received by "Economy News" that "the Ministry attaches the highest priority to strengthening the infrastructure of the electricity sector in Iraq," pointing out that "the agreement of principles of cooperation signed with General Electric, provides a strong plan of action towards achieving these goals, and look forward to starting Implement its proposed terms ".
Joseph Anis, President and CEO of GE Energy Services Business Unit in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia, emphasized the company's commitment to implementing the Action Plan under the recently signed Cooperation Principles Agreement.
"This agreement will help the Iraqi government avoid losses of up to $ 3 billion a year through repairs, maintenance and modernization that help reduce operating costs for existing power plants and to reap 65,000 direct and indirect jobs," said General Electric.
The agreement envisages the modernization of existing power plant operations to provide an additional 1.5 gigawatts by 2019 to provide 1.5 million Iraqi homes with power while providing maintenance and rehabilitation services for the additional 7 GW currently in operation.
