US: Iran must respect Iraq's sovereignty

Said that Tehran has to implement six conditions ...

The US State Department on Tuesday renewed its call on Iran to respect Iraq's sovereignty and allow Shiite militias to lay down their arms, demobilize and reintegrate into society.

This came in a statement published by the ministry via its account on Twitter, about the sanctions imposed by Washington on Tehran from Monday.

"Six days before the sanctions came into force, these are the six conditions that the Iranian regime is required to treat Washington as a normal country," the statement said.

"The Iranian regime must respect the sovereignty of the Iraqi government and allow the Shiite militias to lay down their arms, demobilize and reintegrate them," he said, without elaborating on the rest of the conditions.

In May, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo put forward 12 conditions for a new deal with Iran, notably a halt to support for terrorism and withdrawal from Syria.

Pompeo's speech came a week after President Trump announced his withdrawal from the nuclear deal and reinstated economic sanctions against Tehran.

At the time, Trump justified his decision that "the agreement is bad and has the disadvantages of not imposing restrictions on the Iranian missile program and its policy in the Middle East."

France, Britain and Germany, as the European Union's representative to the 2015 agreement, rejected the US decision, declaring their commitment to it. link
