The Euphrates -
'Mesopotamia may become a day without water', this strange paradox has become a nightmare facing Iraq and its citizens, and why the Iranian neighbor's acquisition of dams.
The danger coming from Iran was revealed by the Ministry of Water Resources with pictures and documents, when its minister said: 'These images are for 8 dams or 10 that Iran has finished building and controlled all our revenues in the Derbandakhan Dam.
The images show that Iran has gone through its ambitions and plans to control the resources of the Iraqi dam of Derbandikhan first. The next one seems to be worse. The dam projects on the Tehran plan will be obtained in the event of its creation from the Lower Zab and Diyala rivers.
Janabi says it is small dams, but the damage will be great for the large number.
Iran boasts of this number, announcing weeks ago about 109 dams to be built within its five-year plan.
The new threat comes weeks after photographs of Iraqis crossing the Tigris on foot were published in pictures that spread to social media outlets and rocked the country to show the drought of the river.
Neighboring Iran can control 30 of the Tigris tributaries that originate from its territory and feed more than 12 percent of the Tigris's imports.
Last Tuesday, Iran announced cuts of running water to Iraqi territory, estimated at 7 billion cubic meters, further exacerbating the problem of water shortages and pollution already suffered by some Iraqi cities, especially Basra.
Iranian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Ali Murad Akbari said his country would cut about 7 billion cubic meters towards the western and northwestern borders of Iraq, on the order of Iranian guide Ali Khamenei.
He stressed that these quantities of water will be used in three major projects on an area of 550 thousand hectares in Khuzestan (southwestern Iran), and 220 thousand hectares in Khuzestan also, and Elam (West).
But Iran is not alone in stealing Iraq's water quotas. Turkish cement blocks in the north - 14 dams on the Euphrates and 8 dams on the Tigris - threaten to dry up in Iraq as well.
Weeks ago, Basra witnessed massive protests, due to a lack of basic services, mainly the scarcity and pollution of drinking water.
