The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) has released the World Hunger Index of 2018, in which Iraq has become a stark target for this year's World Hunger Index.

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), after issuing the World Hunger Index of 2018, measures hunger and lack of food according to several criteria. The index includes 119 countries, mostly from Third World and developing countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe. The most starving Arab.

According to the United Nations World Health Organization (WHO), hunger is defined as food deprivation and malnutrition, which makes an individual unable to get 1,800 calories, a minimum daily for a healthy and productive life.

The ranking of the country studied depends on the indicator, at the rate of the overall average of the above criteria from zero to 100, and the higher the percentage obtained by the country under study, the higher the hunger rate (to get a low ranking in the index), and vice versa , The lower the percentage obtained by the country under study to close to zero, indicating that the reduction of hunger (to get the country to a high ranking in the index).

The world hunger index included 15 Arab countries, including Iraq, out of 22 Arab countries. The Arab countries did not differ significantly from the 2017 index, and Kuwait was the least hungry Arab country, with a total average of less than 5%.

On the other hand, Yemen (117th place) was the most hungry Arab country with an average of 39.7% with a slight difference from Sudan (112th place in the world), the second most hungry Arab country, with an average of 34.8%. While the Comoros (the number 101 in the world) was the third most hungry Arab country with an average of 30.8%.

Fifteen countries ranked first in the index to be the least hungry, with a combined average of less than 5%, including a single Gulf Arab state: Kuwait, as well as another Middle Eastern country, Turkey.

Of the 15 least-starved countries in the index, Europe dominated the least-starved countries in the index with nine European countries, as well as four countries in the Americas: Chile, Uruguay, Costa Rica, Cuba and two Asian countries: Turkey and Kuwait.

On the other hand, the African continent dominated the ranking of the ten most starving countries in the world, with seven African countries on the list, in addition to two countries from Asia: Yemen, East Timor and a country in the Americas: Haiti, Two Arab states: Sudan, Yemen became starving, three points from the index last year.
