Austria calls for Arbil and Baghdad to return to the 2014 agreement

Regarding the Kirkuk oil and the budget of the Peshmerga ...

15/10/2018 - 17:32 News / Kurdistan

Austria on Monday called for both Baghdad and Erbil to activate the oil agreement signed between the two sides in 2014.

"I expect this government to serve the Iraqi people in all directions," Austrian Foreign Minister Karen Kniessel told a news conference in Luxembourg, referring to the new Iraqi government.

The dispute between Erbil and Baghdad over oil should be resolved through a return to the 2014 agreement, Kniesel said.

The agreement provides that Kurdistan will deliver at least 250 thousand barrels of oil per day to the federal government for the purpose of export, where Baghdad exports 300 thousand barrels per day from the fields of Kirkuk through the pipeline oil in the Kurdistan Region.

The agreement also includes allocating a percentage of the allocations of the federal ground forces of the Iraqi army to the Peshmerga forces according to the percentage of population as part of the Iraqi security system.
