Al-Amiri coalition drops Abdul-Mahdi's status as prime minister

Twilight News

Shafaq News / The alliance revealed the opening, led by Hadi al-Amiri, on Wednesday, the fact that the name of the former leader of the Supreme Council, Adel Abdul Mahdi, as a compromise candidate between him and the alliance of Sowron backed by the leader of the Sadrist movement.

A member of the coalition MP Haneen Qado, told the news that "the news that talked about the introduction of Adel Abdul Mahdi as a candidate settlement between the conquest and the rest, with the support of the reference is inaccurate."

"We have not reached any solutions on the issue of choosing the next prime minister," he said.

The political parties close to the alliance of Sadr, led by Moqtada al-Sadr and the alliance led by Hadi al-Amiri, talked about the nomination of former leader of the Supreme Islamic Council Adel Abdul-Mahdi for the post of Prime Minister, supported by the Supreme Shiite cleric in Iraq, Ali al-Sistani, according to informed sources.

Although the candidate for this post, Adel Abdul Mahdi, did not officially comment on this candidacy, he earlier announced that he had stopped writing his op-ed articles in Al-Adala newspaper because of his preoccupation with political discussions that did not address their nature.

He was appointed Vice President of the Republic of Iraq in 2005, after being a candidate for the post of Prime Minister, before giving up in favor of Ibrahim Jaafari, and received the Ministry of Oil before resigning in March 2016.
