The Minister of Planning in the Kurdistan Regional Government Ali al-Sindi on Thursday that the population of the region has approached six million people, noting the low rates of unemployment within the community.

This came during a press conference held today in Erbil during the presentation of a report on demographic coverage in the Kurdistan Region prepared by the Statistics Authority in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund and the International Organization for Migration, including 12 thousand, 700 families in addition to 400 families of displaced persons.

Sindi said during the conference that for 30 years has not been a census of the population, adding that the population of the Kurdistan Region 5 million and 755 thousand, and 43 people.

He explained that those families whose monthly income is less than one million dinars in the Kurdistan Region represent 87%, pointing out that 23% of the population source of finance from agriculture.

According to demographic coverage, in 2015, the percentage of unemployed reached 13%, but now the percentage dropped to 10.2%.
