US warning to Iran against any attack by its "proxies" in Iraq

We will respond quickly and decisively

12/09/2018 - 00:40 Iraq

The United States has warned Iran that it will "respond swiftly and decisively" to any attacks by Tehran agents in Iraq, injuring Americans or damaging US installations.

A statement to the White House press office accused Iran of not preventing attacks in recent days on the US consulate in Basra and the US embassy complex in Baghdad.

On Tuesday, the Iranian regime sent a letter to the Iraqi central government in Baghdad and the Kurdistan region, which included a latent threat to use military force in their territory, days after the Revolutionary Guard bombed areas in the semi-independent Kurdish region.

The Iranian revolutionary fired seven missiles in an attack on a base of two Kurdish parties based in Kuesengjak, about 65 kilometers from the Iranian border.

In its letter, Iran demanded the extradition of what it described as "separatist terrorists", referring to the fighters of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran, whose sites were bombed by the Revolutionary Guard, and resulted in the deaths of 16 martyrs and 42 wounded.

Iran's relations with the United States have been strained since Washington withdrew from the international nuclear deal with Tehran and resumed sanctions amid warnings from the administration of US President Donald Trump that it would exert "maximum pressure" on Iran.

The Secretary-General of the Iranian National Security Council Ali Shamkhani, according to Tasnim news agency said that the time of "hit and run" in the region has passed, adding, "We will respond to any hostile action on the country ten times," referring to the recent bombing that targeted Quesengq.

Shamkhani said that the missile attack in the town of Koesengk in the Kurdistan region "constitutes an approach and response to any threat to Iran."
