The election campaigns of the parties and entities participating in the legislative elections in the Kurdistan Region, scheduled for 30 September, were launched early Tuesday. More than 700 candidates from different parties and political forces are competing for 111 seats in the Kurdistan Parliament.

The contestants represent 28 electoral lists, including the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), the largest Kurdish party in the Kurdistan region.

The Kurdistan Democratic Party, led by President Massoud Barzani, issued the results of the Iraqi parliamentary elections in Kurdistan, which took place on 12 May last, while fifth on the level of Iraq.

The Kurdistan Region consists of four provinces, namely Arbil, the capital, Sulaymaniyah, Dahuk and Halabja.

The Iraqi elections suffered allegations of fraud and corruption because of the adoption of an electronic counting and counting system, but the Kurdistan Region decided to maintain the manual count to avoid any violations.

More than three million citizens in the Kurdistan region are entitled to participate in the elections to elect the new Kurdistan Parliament of 111 seats.

The population of the province of Kurdistan about six million, out of the 37 million is the total number of the population of Iraq, where there has been no census for years.

Any candidate has the right to promote himself and his electoral program in any place other than places of worship. The law also prohibits defamation during campaigns.

"All the streets are open to propaganda campaigns, provided they do not cause any inconvenience to citizens," said Aram Najmuddin, director of the Office of the Electoral Commission in Erbil.

At least each candidate spends $ 20,000 to print his posters, according to workers at the printing press.

The election campaign will end in the middle of the 28th of this month in preparation for the elections, preceded by a 24-hour electoral silence.

The new parliament will have to elect a new government that will face economic challenges as the region faces a financial crisis four years ago.

The elections are supervised by the Independent High Electoral Commission and the referendum in the Kurdistan Region.
