More than 24 hours after it was received, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry on Sunday expressed its "rejection" of the Iranian bombardment that targeted the district of Koesengq in the province of Arbil in the Kurdistan region on Saturday, which resulted in the deaths of 15 martyrs and 39 wounded.

"The ministry confirms Iraq's keenness on the security of its neighbors and its refusal to use its territory to threaten the security of these countries," Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmad Mahjoub said in a statement.

Adding: "Also rejects the Ministry of Foreign Affairs categorically reject the violation of Iraqi sovereignty by bombing any target inside Iraqi territory without prior coordination with the Iraqi authorities, to spare civilians from the effects of those operations."

On Saturday, Iranian missile strikes targeted the headquarters of the two largest Kurdish parties opposed to Tehran in the district of Quesengq (east of Erbil).

The Kurdistan Regional Government condemned the attack immediately after it was obtained and renewed its refusal to use the territory of the region as a launching pad to attack neighboring countries, calling at the same time not to make the territory of the region a yard to settle the accounts.

The Kurdish leader Massoud Barzani condemned the attack, stressing that the problems and issues of the Kurdish people are not solved by violence, killing and bombing, and that peaceful methods are the best ways to solve problems. He also called on all parties not to make the Kurdistan Region an arena to solve their problems.
