"Iran and Iraq will not allow the United States to undermine the privileged relations between them," said Hossein Amir Abdullahian, a special aide to the head of the Islamic Shura Council.

"Iran and Iraq will not allow the United States to undermine the excellent relations between them," he said.

He noted Iraq's successes in combating terrorism and the political process in Iraq. He added that Iraq's political and religious leaders and its conscious people have gone out of their way to succeed in combating terrorism and promoting the political and democratic process.

He pointed to the movements of some countries in the region and the United States in the new developments in Iraq, adding that Iraq now needs more than ever to focus on unity and national accord.

"Saudi Arabia must respect the opinion and voice of the Iraqi people and turn it into a building neighbor," he said.

"We hope that the parliament and leaders in Iraq will reach an agreement to form a new government and support the process of security, stability and prosperity in this country," Abdullahian said.

"We appreciate the role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in helping to combat terrorism in Iraq," the UN representative said.

He added that Iran and Iraq are neighbors, both of whom have benefited from the new phase of their overall relations.

He said the United Nations was seeking to form a new government in Iraq on the basis of national consensus and that helping to root out terrorism in the country was a UN goal.
