Iran warns of "acute" economic crisis in Iraqi provinces if Baghdad applies US sanctions

03-09-2018 12:51 PM

The Euphrates -

The head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Shura Council, Hishmatullah Fallah Bishah, said that Iraq seeks to calm the negative atmosphere against Iran, accusing America of trying to undermine Iran's relations with neighboring countries.

He commented, 'Bisha plant' on the recent statements of Prime Minister Haider Abadi on sending a delegation from his country to the United States for understanding on financial transactions with Iran, saying: 'The Iraqi delegation will hold talks with the US Treasury to exempt Iraq from the embargo and punitive measures, Dealing with the Iranians, Iran is one of the three countries have the largest dealings with Iraq '.

"On the other hand, this delegation seeks to calm the negative atmosphere in Iraq on the relationship with Iran," he said.

The president of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee said relations between Iran and Iraq were broader than America's, and if Iraq wanted to implement US sanctions, Iraq's eastern provinces would face a financial crisis.

Peshah said the eastern provinces of Iraq had economic dealings with Iran worth about $ 13 billion and would be exposed to a severe economic crisis if the Iraqi government applied the US embargo.

"The Iraqi government, for political and historical reasons, is under economic pressure after 2003 and needs Iran," he said.

The president of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee said that the Americans do not have economic goals of this type of decision, but seek political goals and try to undermine Iran's relations with its allies and neighbors.
