Shafaq News / The coordination of the protest movements in Iraq will resort to civil disobedience in the coming weeks, if the Iraqi government continues to ignore the demands of the demonstrators.

"There are consultations and discussions between the coordination of Basra and other provinces with the aim of resorting to civil disobedience to pressure the government to implement the demands of the demonstrators," Russian media quoted Ali al-Basri, a member of the coordination of Basra province.

He added that "the coming days will see the date of civil disobedience, and we wait to discuss the proposal with the coordination of the capital Baghdad to agree on everything, including timing."

The spark of demonstrations in Iraq in the province of southern Basra more than a month ago, killing and wounding hundreds after clashes with security forces.

After the protests in Basra, demonstrations took place in the provinces of central and southern Iraq, in addition to the capital Baghdad, where these provinces are constantly moving.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi promised to implement the protesters' demands after the Shiite cleric in Najaf supported the protests.
