The United Nations Refugee Affairs Department issued a report on the increase in the proportion of Syrian refugees to the Kurdistan Region through the informal crossings.

The reliefweb site revealed that by the end of this year, the influx of refugees to the Kurdistan Region will increase through informal crossings. He pointed out that the Kurdistan Regional Government will accept them as refugees. He spoke about a census of the number of Syrian refugees to Kurdistan during the period mentioned.  

According to statistical data, it is expected to reach about 245 thousand Syrian refugees to the Kurdistan region until the end of this year, indicating that as of June last year, 251 thousand and 157 families registered themselves as refugees.

He added that the Kurdistan Regional Government needs 228 million dollars to take the necessary measures in this regard, while need another 51 million dollars to protect them.

The report pointed out that all evidence is maintained by UNHCR through the surveillance cameras on the border to follow the daily movement of Syrian refugees, informal as well as those coming across the border groups to Kurdistan and the provincial government to receive them.

The report said that at the beginning of the outbreak of the internal Syrian war, more than 1,000 and 316 people took refuge in the province and registered another 773 names, while 437 children were born in hospitals and their provisions were prepared and a quiet life away from the war in addition to providing other services to them.

In order to help the victims, more than 300 volunteers are working to help people with special needs. More than 86 activities have been conducted in the past six months in the civil fields, human rights and women, and many rehabilitation courses have been opened in the refugee camps for psychosocial support.

UNHCR, together with SGBV organizations to combat violence and the PSEA for the defense and awareness of sexual assaults, have opened a number of joint awareness sessions for those seeking to raise their cultural level.
