The final results of the May 12 elections are expected this week

Manual counting is about to end

05/08/2018 - 16:34 Iraq

The hand-counting and re-counting of the contested Iraqi election funds is nearing completion after the 9-judge board of commissioners announced yesterday the completion of polling operations in the Karkh district of Baghdad after it was completed last week by the Rusafa funds.

And left before the Board of Commissioners only re-audit funds of some of the provinces located at the Baghdad International Fair on Sunday. Sources close to the election commission expect the final results of the May 12 parliamentary elections to be announced this week.

The official spokesman for the Electoral Commission, Judge Laith Jabr Hamza, said in a statement yesterday «the completion of the counting and sorting of the centers and stations that received complaints and appeals Saturday to the Baghdad office - Karkh electoral». The statement revealed that the Board of Commissioners of the judges assigned on Sunday (Sunday) «re-counting and sorting of the stations that the former Board of Commissioners had canceled, and are already in the Baghdad International Fair by re-examination and examination, namely the provinces (Kirkuk - Sulaymaniyah - Erbil - Dohuk - Nineveh - Salah al-Din - Anbar), pointing out that «the examinations and audit of the stations mentioned will be at the Baghdad International Fair and under the direct supervision of the Board of Commissioners of the judges assigned and the contribution of the staff of the Commission and the presence of active teams of the United Nations and the European Union and agents of political parties and the monitoring of community organizations

Political and popular interest in the election results declined after the wave of popular protests in the central and southern governorates nearly four weeks ago.

In turn, a member of the Board of Commissioners suspended from work expected that the final results of the elections will be announced this week. "I expect to announce the results this week, especially after the board of authorized commissioners is about to complete manual counting and counting," says the former commissioner, who prefers not to be named. He also expected that the new appeals will begin with the results of the elections next week, but he added, "It is unlikely that it will affect the final results of the electronic counting and counting operations, since most manual counting operations in all governorates have achieved a significant correlation with electronic counting."

The Iraqi Council of Representatives approved the end of last June, the third amendment to the electoral law and obliged the Electoral Commission to return the manual counting of the ballot boxes after a wave of resentment and challenges the validity of the results of the electronic count approved by the second amendment to the law mentioned.
