Iraqi security forces on Monday evening fired live bullets to disperse the demonstrators in the capital Baghdad, without accurate reports of casualties.

Iraqi media said riot police broke up a demonstration in the Shula neighborhood with live ammunition.

Adding that the riot police within the city of the torch dispersed about 300 demonstrators by firing live ammunition, and closed some of the entrances to the city.

While another force of riot control spread in the Amel district of the capital, and closed the exits leading to Baghdad airport.

Most cities in southern Iraq, which have a Shiite majority, are witnessing mass popular protests two weeks ago to demand better public services, job opportunities for unemployed citizens and the eradication of corruption.

And the outbreak of electricity shortages, water scarcity and rampant unemployment caused the latest wave of anger in Basra, one of the richest provinces, an outlet for the export of oil, while the authorities met with repression, resulting in the deaths and injuries by security.

Basra has about 70 percent of Iraq's proven oil reserves of 153.1 billion barrels, located on the Arabian Gulf bordering Kuwait and Iran, and is the only center of Iraq for all oil exports to the international market.

And they stormed the protesters in most southern provinces , government buildings , in addition to the centers of the dominant parties on the political scene for years, and the headquarters of the popular crowd militia , which is the main arm of Iran in Iraq.

The government rushed to contain the protests with promises to provide thousands of jobs, especially in the oil sector, and allocate 3.5 trillion Iraqi dinars (3 billion dollars) for electricity and water projects.

However, in parallel to the government promises, the security forces launched a campaign of arrests, according to activists, dozens of people who participated in the protests to demand better jobs and services.
