The Iranian regime does not conceal its explicit and public support for terrorist groups in Bahrain. Revolutionary Guards commanders have repeatedly called on pro-Tehran cells in Bahrain to launch an "armed insurgency."

In December 2016, deputy commander of the Revolutionary Guards, Major General Hussein Salami, told the official IRNA news agency that "the victory in Aleppo is an introduction to the liberation of Bahrain," adding that Iran's expansionist project would extend to Bahrain and Yemen.

In September 2016, the secretary of Iran's Expediency Council and former Revolutionary Guards commander Mohsen Rezai said that his country would not abandon its "allies in Syria, Bahrain and Yemen" and would continue to support them politically and morally, in an interview with Christine Science Monitor.

In August 2016, the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, General Mohammad Ali Falaki, announced that his country had formed the "Shiite Liberation Army" led by Qods Force Commander Qasim Soleimani, and included elements from Bahrain, as well as elements from Syria and Iraq Lebanon, Yemen and other Shiite elements around the world.

The leader of the Ansar-e-Hezbollah militia, a lobbyist linked to Iran's supreme leader Ali Khamenei, also claimed that "Bahrain is an Iranian province cut off" during a speech at a meeting in the city of Bushehr.

Since the mullahs took power in Iran in 1979, Iranian officials have occasionally called for the inclusion of Bahrain in the framework of the expansionist policies of the sectarian regime in Iran, in disregard of all international laws and norms, which call for respect for the independence and sovereignty of States, Good neighborliness and non-interference in the affairs of other countries.

Several votes have been issued by the Iranian Shura Council and several political and military figures in Tehran over the past years calling for the occupation of Bahrain, which dismantled dozens of armed cells, backed by Tehran, to destabilize security and stability.
