Deputy President of the Republic Nuri al-Maliki , on Monday, the need to disarm illegally from the hands of "militias" and organized crime syndicates.

"We emphasize the need for the illegal disarmament of militias and organized criminal gangs and to limit it to the state to ensure security, political and security stability, and to reassure people of the power of criminals," Maliki said in response to reporters' questions.

He explained that "this does not mean depriving the citizen of possession of weapons licensed by the competent authorities, but the disarmament of unauthorized militias before the disarmament of the individual who protects the citizen." On June 17, 2018,

Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi stressed the importance of maintaining the neutrality of the armed forces and keeping them away from political differences and conflicts. He pointed out that work is under way to limit weapons to the state.
