Abadi demands disarmament of all armed groups on Iraqi soil

BAGHDAD ( Reuters) -
Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on Tuesday called for disarming all armed groups on Iraqi soil, adding that there are those who seek to bring the political conflict to the point of no return.

"There is a promotion of terrorist acts and spreading lies in order to weaken the country," Abadi said in a speech during the weekly conference. "There are those who seek to bring the political conflict to the point of no return."

Abadi called for "the disarmament of all armed groups on Iraqi soil, especially the Kurdistan Workers' Party."

"The cabinet discussed border controls in the Iraqi-Turkish-Iranian triangle," he said.

The Prime Minister, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Haider Abadi, on Monday (February 19, 2018) on the start of steps to disarm in the capital and the provinces of Baghdad and the hand of the state, stressing that the move enjoys political and popular support.
