An Iranian withdrawal from the south paves the way for a settlement

With the continuation of the bombing of the third day on the south of Syria, which caused a wave of large displacement towards the Jordanian border, revealed yesterday the withdrawal of Iranian forces from the tape adjacent to the border with the occupied Golan, to a depth of 40 kilometers, in conjunction with Jordanian-US talks with the factions of the south, To the approach of the intervention of regional and international forces.

The Syrian regime continued to bombard several areas in the provinces of Daraa and Quneitra, and pro-government media reported on the progress of its forces on several fronts and enabled it to "destroy the fortifications of terrorists in the countryside of Daraa." At the same time, the Free Army factions continued to fire. To "organize, plan and lead combat and military actions in the south".

According to the Syrian news agency (SANA) that the artillery was carried out «concentrated grenades» on sites in the city of Al-Harak and the town of Basra silk. She pointed out that rocket-propelled grenades fired by the opposition gunmen from Daraa, killing civilians in the city of Suweida, which is controlled by the government in the east.

"After the deployment, the regime's intention to control the area of Basra al-Silir and the committees east of Daraa was revealed," Naseem Abu 'Ara, commander of the Sunni youth forces, was quoted as saying by Reuters news agency. "There is a fear among civilians that indiscriminate shelling is a prelude to a campaign the regime is planning to launch," Abu Bakr al-Hassan, spokesman for the Revolutionary Army, told Reuters.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the military escalation led to the displacement of 12,500 residents of Daraa alone towards the towns bordering the Jordanian border.

"The United Nations is concerned about the escalation of violence in Daraa, which threatens the lives of civilians and displaces hundreds of families," said Jens Lierke, spokesman for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Geneva.

The Syrian Observatory said yesterday that Iranian forces, Hezbollah and their loyalists have begun a withdrawal from southern Syria to a depth of 40 kilometers from the border with both the occupied Golan and Jordan, in response to Russian demands. He stressed that the Russians have given way to the Jordanian and American sides, to discuss with the factions of the south on the possibility of reaching a solution.
In Moscow, UN Secretary-General Antonio Gutierrez urged Russia and the United States to continue their dialogue on Syria in a press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. He expressed "absolute confidence in the absence of fundamental differences between the two countries regarding Syria and the Middle East," noting that "their strategic interests are identical in this regard." He expected that the constitutional committee will be formed soon, stressing that the United Nations is working with Russia «to ensure the implementation of the results of the Sochi Conference in full form».

Cairo called yesterday for the formation of the Syrian delegation in the Constitution Committee «without interference». A delegation from the Syrian negotiating team met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri, who stressed "a political solution that preserves Syria's unity." He affirmed support for all efforts to stop bloodshed and resume negotiations on the basis of the political solution. He also pointed out that the formation of the constitutional committee «is not a target ... The Security Council resolution includes other elements should not be neutral, the most important that the political solution to the Syrian crisis is the only solution». He called for "breaking the deadlock in the political process and building on what has been agreed upon to make progress."

On the other hand, the delegation of the Commission expressed its deep concern as a result of the military escalation currently taking place in the southern regions of Syria and its negative effects on the upcoming negotiations.

That will be short-lived, until Iran comes up with a better plan, and all of it traces right back to the roots of Hezbollah-
