The first deputy governor of Dhi Qar Adel al-Dakhili on Thursday died of a large number of fish and animals in the districts and southern areas of the province of Dhi Qar because of water scarcity.

"The administrative units of the southern regions of Qar Qar have written official books on the registration of cases of illness and the death of a large number of fish, livestock and buffaloes because of the water scarcity and the frightening drying of the land," Dakhili said in a statement.

He added that "local government measures do not meet the actual need for livestock breeders and buffaloes in the areas that fall in the rivers, which do not connect to the quantities of water planned for the province by the Ministry of Water Resources, which led to the dryness of their land completely and the death of large numbers of animals."

Al-Dakhili added that "a number of measures taken by the crisis cell to provide pelvic vehicles to transport water to them periodically until the completion of the drilling of artesian wells for those areas, which need the intervention of the central government and provide funds and mechanisms for drilling to avoid the crisis and the death of animals and the migration of families from the southern regions."
