Transparency International's Corruption Perception Index 2017 listed six Arab countries among the most corrupt countries in the world: Somalia, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Libya, and Iraq.
Transparency International said in its annual report on the indicators of corruption in the world, published on Thursday, that Somalia ranked the last in the world number 180, the first world corruption, then Syria ranked 178, and Yemen and Sudan ranked 175, and Libya ranked 171 and Iraq in Ranked 169, making them among the 10 most corrupt countries in the world.
Egypt ranked 117th and Jordan ranked 59rd among the 180 countries surveyed by the World Corruption Index.
New Zealand was the world's most honest country, while Denmark was second, while Bahrain ranked the lowest in the Gulf and the UAE was the highest against corruption in the GCC.
Bahrain ranked 103rd globally in the Corruption Perceptions Index, gaining 36 points compared to 43 points in the 2016 report, while Kuwait ranked 85th in the world and got 39 points in the report, compared to 41 in the previous report.
Oman ranked 68th in the world, 44 points compared with 45 previously, Saudi Arabia ranked 57th in the world with 49 points in the 2017 report, compared with 46 in the 2016 report
. Qatar ranked 29th in the world and got 63 points, Compared to 61 points in the previous report, while the UAE was the best Gulf in a global ranking of 21 globally and got 71 points compared to 66 points in the previous report.
Libya ranked last in the Maghreb and 171 in the world, with 17 points, followed by Mauritania in 143rd place in the world, 28 points, Algeria ranked 112th in the world, 33 points, Morocco ranked 81th in the world, 40 points, Tunisia ranked first, With 42 points.
The 2017 Corruption Indicators Index shows that the majority of countries make little or no progress in eliminating corruption and notes that journalists and activists in corrupt countries are risking their lives every day in an attempt to talk about corruption and its risks.
The index includes 180 countries in terms of levels of corruption.
Syria, South Sudan, Somalia and Iraq are the lowest in the index, while the best performing region is Western Europe with an average of 66.
The worst performing regions are sub-Saharan Africa with an average of 32 degrees, Eastern Europe and Central Asia with an average of 34 degrees.
Since 2012, several countries have significantly improved their index score, including Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal and the United Kingdom, while several countries, including Syria, Yemen and Australia, have declined.
Countries with the least protection for the press and non-governmental organizations tend to be the worst rates of corruption.
Every week, at least one journalist was killed in a largely corrupt country.
Transparency is an international non-governmental organization based in Germany, concerned with corruption, including political corruption and other forms of corruption.
It is internationally renowned for its annual corruption index, a comparative list of countries in terms of the spread of corruption around the world.
The organization launched the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) in 1995 to become one of the most important publications of Transparency International, and the most important global indicators to assess the spread of corruption in the public sector.
