Bank Story #229 (Dong exchange receipt)
I'm haven't decided yet what to think of this - mostly because I do not believe in an upcoming RV under any circumstances... but on 2/15 my father-in-law went to his bank and asked about Dinar and Dong. He always carries one of each just in case..
In this instance the teller said nothing for Dinar, but for Dong .36 per dong. Or was it .39? one or the other).
Anyway, he pulled out a 25K dong note and they exchanged it for $9504.00.
And here is his receipt...
Hmmm... I been trying to upload but it keeps telling me it's too big... I managed to get it down to 30k... the insert thingy below says max=.098Mb. Someone please tell me how to get a JPG of 30k uploaded...

Re: Bank Story #229 (Dong exchange receipt)
LOL...can't upload the receipt? Can't recall which bank he went to, or the city? And he gave you his receipt, instead of running back to exchange every single VND he owned?
If you list bank, city, and the teller who helped him (it'll be on the receipt), this can be verified, and you'll be a hero - because not a single shred of exchange evidence has ever been provided, and you hold the key to RV truth in your hands!

Re: Bank Story #229 (Dong exchange receipt)
When he tyold me about it I asked him to scan ane email me... I actually thought he was not being fully truthful, but to day he did it. So I saved the picture on my PC in a JPG. I tried to upload it. It's 30K in size, but when I try to copy paste it, it just looks blank. So I tried to use the link listed below when you create a new post where it says upload a file. I selected the JPG and then it told me it was too big...Purpleskyz wrote:take a pic on your phone*, upload it to your pc then you can copy & paste the jpg. here

I wonder if I can send it to Pony in a PM she can upload it for me??
Suggestions??
I really would like to know if it's real or not... I have a hard time believing it, but it looks real and he told me what took place... so I don't know...

Re: Bank Story #229 (Dong exchange receipt)
Can anyone see the actual exchange rate? A mention of VND? A mention of VND to USD? Is there a reason why after 9504 the last two 0s look odd?

Re: Bank Story #229 (Dong exchange receipt)
The thing is I am absolutely positive 100% there is no such thing as an RV where we all get rich. But I just do not know what to think of this. He was all excited and said he drove home and got the rest but when he got back to the bank the rates went back to what they were. He has no way of getting that much money on S.S. income to make such a deposit. If this is any kind of valid I have to wonder who is gonna get burned,. him or the teller who gave it to him. He checked today and the money is still in his account.Purpleskyz wrote:Good job!

Re: Bank Story #229 (Dong exchange receipt)
I wondered the same thing. Does any one know if that's a requirement? Has anyone actually exchanged and the receipt showed an exchange rate or currency exchanged? I've never done it so I do not know.ReapAndSow73 wrote:Can anyone see the actual exchange rate? A mention of VND? A mention of VND to USD?

That last sentence in the receipt makes me wonder if they try to validate it and realize a big boo boo was made and they retrieve it back out of his account...

Re: Bank Story #229 (Dong exchange receipt)
I've exchanged a dozen currencies back and forth into and out of USD. Always an exchange rate on a receipt. Looks like someone deposited money into a bank account, that's all I see.

So if that's true then something is not quite right about this whole scenario. Honestly I am not trying to spoof anyone... I was (and still sorta am) in disbelief of it's legitimacy. he has the money.. What happens later is anyone's guess. If they catch it in some kind of audit (or whatever banks do to catch errors) someone is gonna be in trouble. If the clerk simply entered it as a normal deposit and did not go thru whatever exchange process they were supposed to, will the clerk be in trouble? Or will they siphon it back out of his account? I wish I knew... He said he is going to pay off credit cards. If he does that and they try to make him pay it back, that will be really hard on him.
Bottome line I guess is that someone is out 9500 dollars and right now it's the bank. I'm betting the only way to recover that money is to either make the clerk pay or my father-in-law... either way, someone loses.

Re: Bank Story #229 (Dong exchange receipt)
Does anyone here work at a bank or know someone who does that would know anything about what to expect if a banking error was made ? (and I'm betting one was made). I'm more than just a little concerned about this whole thing for his sake.

Re: Bank Story #229 (Dong exchange receipt)
No updates on this. I have not discussed this with him since then. I honestly do not know what to think about this. If it were anyone else I would say this receipt is for something else and only portrayed as an exchange receipt. Plus, someone indicated there should be something that says an exchange rate and perhaps even the name of the currency being exchanged. Neither is here, but he insists that it's legit... so...Ponee wrote:I am so sorry! I somehow missed this post when it was posted. Thanks for sharing that information GREENLIGHT. Re: Bank Story #229 (Dong exchange receipt)
Ponee, if you've read my previous postings, you know that I am a staunch unbeliever in the RV stuff. So if he did in fact exchange dong for 9000+ then someone somewhere made a 9000+ mistake. I am more curious about how that might be handled when accounting figures it out. I'm hoping they will simply write it off rather than try to extract it from his account. But I can't blame them if they do. I just don't want him hurt by it unless he is being totally dishonest with me about it all. I've known him for 25 years so I hope that's not the case.Ponee wrote:What a conundrum! Well, if you hear anything, please let us know.

Yes Green Light, I have always known you to be a straight up guy and a non believer from years back even from the OKIE days. So, I know you are just trying to get to the bottom of the puzzle of "what happens next". I am also very interested in finding out the end to this. I hope he gets to keep his $$ if it was a mistake but I would be my last dinar ... LOL... that if it was a mistake, they will take it back. And, I also hope that he isn't pulling one over on you. That would just be so wrong.
