Paris embraces day International Conference on the Protection of Iraqi antiquities
representative of the President of the Republic arrived on Wednesday to Paris to participate in the International Conference on the Protection of Monuments in the liberated areas of terrorism in Iraq, held by the organization «UNESCO» in collaboration with the Ministries of Education and Culture.
And attend the conference , which lasts for two days (Thursday and Friday) , more than 80 experts and specialists in the field of antiquities from Iraq and foreign countries.
A source in the presidency, that « the visit came at the invitation of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), to participate in the International Conference on the Protection of Monuments in the liberated areas of terrorism in Iraq».
The source indicated that « the delegation arrived in Paris , headed by Presidential Advisor Qahtan al - Jubouri , a representative of the President infallible.»
He pointed out that al - Jubouri «will deliver a speech President Fuad Masum , the conference which will be held for the period from 23 to 24 this February at the headquarters of « UNESCO »in Paris».
He added that « the conference aims to urge the nations of the world to participate in the restoration and maintenance operations and preserve the heritage of Iraq and the protection of cultural property, especially registered on the World Heritage list of sites, as well as museums and religious sites and manuscripts, and combat trafficking in antiquities».
And it announced that the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural «UNESCO» in a statement received «morning» copy of it, it will be held (Thursday) meeting to determine the measures to be taken to save the heritage in the liberated areas in Iraq.
The «UNESCO», that «Iraqi and foreign experts will discuss the state of cultural heritage in the liberated areas in Iraq, and initiatives to protect archaeological sites and collections of artifacts in museums and historical manuscripts, and to prevent looting and trafficking is the
project».
It is scheduled that the meeting was opened by Director - General for «UNESCO» Irina Bokova, along with the Minister of Education Mohammad Iqbal Omar, Minister of Culture Raundozi, will attend about 80 people in a series of work sessions on the protection of archaeological sites and prevent exposure to looting.
The focus of the participants on the World Heritage Sites in Iraq , such as site Nimrud and Ashur (Eastern castle) and urban areas, as the participants will discuss a range of concerns major like putting museums and archaeological collections, and to prevent illicit trafficking in antiques, in addition, will address the sessions status quo of historic buildings and heritage religious requirements needed to maintain them.
It is expected that the meeting concludes with the adoption of an urgent action plan to a group of conservation and protection of these sites projects, and will be shared with members of the «UNESCO» countries on this plan during the information meeting (on Friday) is dedicated to mobilize support for the implementation of these projects.
It is worth mentioning that this meeting organizer cooperation between the «UNESCO» and the Iraqi Ministry of Culture with financial support from the Japanese government, in the framework of the project of prevention and preservation of museums and cultural heritage vulnerable groups at risk in Iraq, organized under the auspices of «UNESCO» Office
in Iraq.
