Kevind53, yes, for sure- It keeps moving inland, and will be here around 6:00a.m. or so on Friday- The wind speed is about 145 m.p.h., so blowing in toward the center of the state where I am, will be around 90 m.p.h. I don't have much outside to worry about, but went shopping for supplies, so they will last a few days- Car and truck are all fueled up, so can leave IF we have to-I have access to a generator if one is needed-I appreciate the heads 'up', so to speak- Thanks!!

When you live in Hurricane Alley, you gotta pay the price.... Just ask the folks from Katrina...

Re: Keep your head's down.
We had four hurricanes back to back in 2004, and we rode them all out, they were right over the top of our place- The small pond across the road was 6 feet from coming into our 'Florida' room, and above the hubcaps on my truck......Power was out for 3 days-

Ok, just where in hell are we supposed to go to? We have other homes around us, and some big assed trees that will slow the wind down, so actually, I don't foresee any issues or problems, and we are on the back side of where the winds will be, anyway-

Re: Keep your head's down.
Well, as for me personalty, I live about 170 miles off the gulf coast and the drive to the beach is a whole lot better than risking anything in a tropical storm.. Our town is also a good place to take in the smart folks who leave the storm area BEFORE the storm hits.... We have no hurricanes, and no tornadoes as well and very rare snow storms... But I understand people gotta live where they want to live... In the end it's an individual choice, kind of like buying foreign currency..... Just saying.

Don't worry about it Terbo. Some people just have no sense of adventure.

Re: Keep your head's down.
I do have to add one more thing- Jayzze will get slammed with sustained winds of over 145 m.p.h., and he is situated around the Ft. Lauderdale area- I am in hopes he gets through this in one piece-I just don't want to see bad things happen to him and his family, or, anyone else for that matter, as this is going to be some serious shit goin on, in a bad way- :nonono:

Re: Keep your head's down.
Even up north and inland can be a bad place to be. I live in Central Vermont, close to the NY border, a good 150 miles from the nearest shore. Irene paid us a visit about five years ago, by the time she came ashore in the North East, she had weakened to a tropical storm, even more so by the time she reached Vermont. However, when you dump 11 inches of rain, (5 to 7 was predicted), into mountains and narrow valleys, you end up with a helluva mess. Over than 2,400 roads, 800 homes, 300 bridges were destroyed or damaged. Literally every rail line in Vermont was cut. Let me tell you the sight of 60 or 70 yards of tracks and ties hanging in mid air is a little surreal. Many small towns were totally cut off, some accessible only by helicopter or 4X4 for weeks. Yet the water was mostly gone in a matter of hours.
What was remarkable in comparison to Katrina was the rapidity in which damage was repaired and roads reopened. It wasn't that FEMA responded more quickly, they didn't, it was more a case of resident's didn't wait for someone to respond, they just went to work cleaning up. The governor suspended a lot of laws rules and regulations to get them out of the way. I'm reminded of one story I heard, the day after the storm, one contractor and a few of his workers walked into work, fired up the equipment and started fixing the washed out highway (US-4), that passed in front of their business. The owner called the state DOT, only to be told he was not on the list of approved contractors. His reply, "I'm not asking permission, I'm telling you what I'm doing." All the roads, with the exception of Route 100, which had about a 25 mile stretch that had to be completely rebuilt, were reopened within about 6 weeks, Rt 100 took about 6 months, mostly because of the volume of fill that had to be quarried for the repairs.

Re: Keep your head's down.
I would not live in any other place then sunny warm fl btw whhat better place to spend xmas then in a pooleven if a hurricane visits once in a while. its better then an earthquake or a tornado where you have no warning. by the way when its cold and snowy in the winter the only thing cold is my beer while I am in the pool

Re: Keep your head's down.
You don't have to live in Florida to have a pool in your back yard and it may surprise you but lots of people have refrigerators as well to keep their beer cool. My town has never had an earthquake or a tornado, or a hurricane for that matter. Hows that working for you sitting in your pool drinking a beer in the middle of one of those concessional hurricanes???

Re: Keep your head's down.
Personally, I need mountains and snow, I could never live full time in Florida, as much as I love the beach, too hot, too flat, too boring and too many nasty critters.

Re: Keep your head's down.
I've served my time up in Maine, and IF I move anywhere, it will be somewhere out west, like maybe Albuquerque, New Mexico, or somewhere up around Prescott, Arizona-Maybe I'll have me a little rattlesnake farm, or something-Just like the drink 'Zima', zumthing different-

Re: Keep your head's down.
I need my mountains and I don't mind the cold, heck I lived in the Adirondacks for 35 years, and we routinely saw 30 below and in the Canadian Arctic where we routinely saw 70 below. Vermont is a piece of cake after that. I might consider the hills of N or S Carolina, but that's about as far south as I would want to go.
