Great example of how these folks milk the members (many of then are barely hanging on) for money. I hope and pray that the good Lord will bring His wrath down on these folks who are the least able to afford it....... :nono:

Why would somebody need donations for a computer build in the 80's and most likely wont work for today's internet needs???

Re: WingIt Friday Drama 8/12/16
Heh, I had one of those. I worked as a bench tech at a mid level to high end AV store. Boss got a bunch of them in for the Christmas season, handed one to me and said "Figure out how to make this thing work." That was my into to computers. I ended up owning a Vic-20, C-64, Trash-80, IBM XT running MS-DOS, a Compaq running Windows 3.1 ....

I think Gerry was making a joke RM! It's actually quite a good nerdy joke.

Also - "most likely wont work for today's internet needs"? That's why he's joking - it CERTAINLY wont be able to access the internet - look at the specs you quoted e.g. 5 Kb of RAM ! We had these in the first school I taught in, back in the 1980s!

Just a thought.........Ever been to the site and when you clicked on a link had you virus detector send you a notice that the link may contain malware or a potential virus? Having been on that forum, I ran into that notice on several occasions and always stopped prior to opening the link... I suspect the site has no internal virus protection and it has finally infected all of the Moderators computers as well. JMO

I run a Linux system - viruses aren't really a problem on these systems.

Re: WingIt Friday Drama 8/12/16
Now most of us who have been using computers for a while have figured out how to protect our systems. Somehow, I feel that many users of that forum are not all that familiar with how a computer can be protected. Since the website in question is having the problem, it is my belief that they are not capable of protecting them selves or the people who access the site. Again, JMO

I think you're right there Tom! A great many of the dinarians seem to think that computers run on magic!

Re: WingIt Friday Drama 8/12/16
That was very much my path to computerdom. But, I added in there an Atari ST, and my "trash-80" was the "business" Model II. My 8MB hard drive was the size of a suitcase!Kevind53 wrote:That was my into to computers. I ended up owning a Vic-20, C-64, Trash-80, IBM XT running MS-DOS, a Compaq running Windows 3.1 ....
