An Alzheimer’s researcher predicts an effective treatment for the disease will be available by the year 2025, while a new pill to slow its onset could be ready by 2018.
Speaking at University College London this week, Professor John Hardy said his predictions were based on the success of current drug trials.
Hardy is confident that over the next decade, methods of preventing or slowing down Alzheimer’s will reach the next level. He said that current research places us in an “era of optimism”, predicting that “by 2050, such advances should be benefiting at least a million people a year in the UK.”
“All of us are excited about drug trials that are going on now,” Hardy said. “In the coming year, we will know if we are at the start of a new era of better treatments for slowing or stopping the development of Alzheimer’s disease.”
Hardy developed the amyloid cascade hypothesis, an explanation for the disease that has dominated research for the past 20 years. It proposes that amyloid beta proteins form long fibres that become plaque on the brain, preventing neurons from communicating with each other.
Last year a pharmaceutical company reported successful results after using the antibody solanezumab to fight the early onset of the condition.
The experimental drug binds itself to the amyloids in their early soluble form, clearing them before they become harmful plaques.

The trials represented the first time treatment concentrated on the cause of the disease and not just its symptoms. Results showed that it slowed down the onset of Alzheimer’s by 34 percent.
If approved by government bodies, it could be available by 2018.

Having just lost an Aunt and previously my Mother to this disease I am invested in putting the word out on studies and results like this:

Scientists with Neuroscience Research Australia are finding that increased amounts of CBD may dramatically heal and protect the memory of people suffering from Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported last week on the project, which injects CBD into mice bred to have symptoms similar to Alzheimer's. He says mice given the anti-inflamitory and antioxidant cannabinoid showed marked improvement in remembering objects as well as other mice.
A related study conducted by Dr. David Cheng at the University of Wollongong, showed CBD also helped reduce the amount of plaque formed on the brain with the onset of Alzheimer's.
"It basically brings the performance of the animals back to the level of healthy animals," said Tim Karl, a senior researcher with the organization. "You could say it cured them, but we will have to go back and look at their brains to be sure."
While clearly an advocate for CBD therapy, Karl doesn't seem all that enthused about general cannabis use however. ""Most of the components [of marijuana] are detrimental, they worsen your cognitive performance and have psychoactive effects... cannabidiol seems to not have any of these negative effects," he said.
The study is being presented at the Australian Neuroscience Society's annual meeting this week.

Your info is great terbo! That paired with CBD oil ingestion will ebb and in many times reverse the cellular damage these diseases cause. Also learning about baking sodas ability to create an alkaline environment in your system is important when dealing with any internal attacks.
