Sharks are eating the internet in Vietnam
Undersea cables are being mistaken for food
Damnit sharks, first you threaten Los Angeles in a giant tornado, and now you've set your sights on the internet?
The underwater trans-Pacific cable that provides internet to much of Southeast Asia saw the latest in a series of ruptures that have blighted Vietnam and other countries in recent months yesterday, causing millions to experience slow or intermittent connections.
While previous theories have included foul play and snagging by anchors, the reason behind the breakages is increasingly thought to be sharks chomping down on the cables.
Indeed videos such as the one above clearly show sharks biting fibre optic cables, perhaps because they mistake electromagnetic waves for bioelectric fields that surround schools of fish.
According to the cable operator Asia-America Gateway (AAG), the ruptures were reported offshore Ba Ria in Vung Tau Province and are now being located.
The 20,000km system required fixing three times last year.
Google went to great lengths to help reinforce undersea cables following a series of sharkbites last summer, cladding ones across the Pacific in Kevlar-like material

Tastes like chicken so I am told. The problem I have with many fish is that they are carp and eat any kind of garbage. Shark doesn't interest me. Then again, I think much of the shark that is served in restaurants is smaller home grown types.

I have had shark steaks, and the meat is very oily and pronounced when cooking- Broiling and barbequing is your best bet to alleviate alot of the oil- But it is not for everyone-More of an aqquired taste-

I do not mind oily fish. I love striper, bluefish, tuna, and Swordfish, all rather oily as I recall. MY favorites are still salmon and cold water trout. I find trout taken in warmer waters can acquire a bit of a muddy taste.

Re: Sharks are eating the internet in Vietnam
Swordfish is usually grilled and frankly I find it a bit boring. I guess I'm more of salmon, halibut and haddock (fish and chips) kinda girl.
Trout is common in the northern part of Canada but it's too boney for me.

The trout, brown trout, togue, rainbow, speckled trout and salmon families are all boney, and like Kevind says, they are a muddy tasting fish in warmer waters, but not so bad in fresh, colder waters more northerly-I snagged quite a few growing up in Maine, but gave them away, and never really cared for the taste of them, either-Sea Bass [striped bass} Cod, haddock, pollock, halibut, flounder and bluefish are very good, rich tasting fish, off the northeastern coast of Maine, to North Carolina-

Oh yes add Sea Bass and Founder to my list. I like those too.

Re: Sharks are eating the internet in Vietnam
Cod, mackerel, and tinker mackerel only have worms if it is in the beginning of spring into early summer, any type of fresh water bass and perch, and some species of crappie have worms early in the season-

Flake is delicious. A lot of fish and chip shops over here sell it as the poor mans' fishnchips! Seafood is really expensive over here, lucky I don't like the majority of it!

Alleyrose, when I was in Australia I ate fish we can't get here in North America. Don't ask me what it was, but it was the some of the best fish I've ever had. We went to the fish market and I was amazed at what you can buy. I envy you.
