Recent Security Council resolution would limit the smuggling of Iraqi oil
16/08/2014 12:23:00
BAGHDAD / NINA / Iraqi Economic Information Center confirmed that the Security Council resolution to punish the buyer of oil smuggled out of Iraq and Syria and punish financiers of the Islamic State (IS) will have positive effects on the reduction of smuggling Iraqi oil.
The head of the center, Dergham Mohammed Ali told the National Iraqi News Agency / NINA / today that "the decision issued under Chapter VII of the UN will contribute to tighten the grip to curb the smuggling of stolen oil from Iraq and Syria to finance terrorist groups."
He stressed that "the recognition of a number of Security Council members that the Syrian and Iraqi oil that sold by the (IS) reach to Europe proves that there are countries in the region facilitate the smuggling operations," stressing that "the mediators cannot work on their own without collusion."
He added, "The decision will make these countries vulnerable to economic sanctions if the Iraqi side was able to prove their involvement in the smuggling directly, which the governments of Iraq and Syria and some countries will be interested in this matter, which would limit the operations of financing the Islamic State."
The UN Security Council warned in a statement from buying oil from the so-called "Islamic State" and Nusrah front, which are fighting in Iraq and Syria, and can lead to the imposition of sanctions, because it represent a financial support for terrorists. "
It is mentioned that Islamic State and Nusrah front controlled over oil fields and oil pipelines to feed financially their attacks on Iraq and Syria. / End
