Cell Phone Scams Empty Cell Phone Scams

Post by cubed_27 on Sun Jun 17, 2012 4:29 pm

My cell phone rings and it is someone who says they are from Microsoft. It's possible, though I have never called Microsoft. They have a near intelligible Indian accent and I place myself on alert. I decide I'm going to have some fun instead of being irritated.

Scammers: "Sir, we are from Microsoft and you have a virus on your computer"

Me: Just a minute. This call may be recorded or monitored. What is your telephone number and address?

Scammers: "Sir , we are calling from.."

Me: I said what is your phone number and address?

Scammers: "Sir, we are from Micro"

Me: I don't care where you're from until you give me your name and address.

Scammers: "But we are from.."

Me: I guess I didn't make myself clear. What is your name, your address, and your phone number?

Scammers: Sir, we are from Microsoft and"

Me: One last time. Give me your address and phone number or we can't do business>

Scammers: "Why do you need my address and phone number?"

Me: I have records I have to keep. What is your address and phone number?

Scammers: "Sir, we are with Microsoft and"

Me: Give me your address and phone number or hang up.

Scammers: (Hang up)

I highly recommend this form of interaction with anyone you suspect is trying to scam you. There is nothing wrong with you verifiying the identity of someone who is requesting information from you for any reason. It was also highly entertaining for me and the people in the bank who were near me. I got some applause too. I didn't even have to be mean and it let me diffuse my anger in a mostly non aggressive manner. If you are one of those Scammers, please call me. We'll have so much fun.
