Dec 27: Central Bank Quotes Dollars At VND20,828

Vietnam's central bank set the U.S. dollar's exchange rate at VND20,828 Tuesday, unchanged from Monday.

An official with the State Bank of Vietnam said Tuesday that the exchange rate will stay unchanged until at least the Lunar New Year festival in late January.

"Demand for dollar hasn't risen as fast as anticipated partly due to a narrowing trade deficit, while banks' dollar reserves are sufficient," the official said.

The General Statistics Office is expected to release December and 2011 trade data this week.
